Since my first wobbly rides in 1976, bicycles have had a major influence on my life. In their various shapes and forms, bikes have been a constant companion and shaper of the person I am today. Ever since learning to ride, my first great accomplishment, I have been fascinated with bicycles. They taught me the basics of physics, mechanics, and engineering (although my first foray into coaster-brake rebuilding nearly killed me). BMX introduced me to the technical aspects of riding, and later, road riding satisfied my wanderlust and taught me about real speed. Mountain biking combined the best that BMX and road could offer, and it also gave me a place to focus my new design education knowledge.
Crossing paths with a local frame-builder during college ensured a life of cool bikes... and great poverty. With the kindness and encouragement of some kind and patient people, I've been able to produce some fine bicycles. Few people can claim that they get to do what they love, so while my work may or may not be Nobel-worthy, I take great pride in the small bits of enjoyment that my work and my bikes bring to people.
